CDM 2015: competence and induction, checked before access
Under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, a UK duty holder must satisfy themselves that a contractor is competent and has had the site induction before granting access. That is a legal duty, not good practice, and it is hard to evidence from a signing-in book.
BeckonDesk checks induction completion and certification expiry at the kiosk, so a contractor whose induction has lapsed or whose certificate expired last month is stopped at the gate rather than found in an audit six months later. Every check is timestamped against the visit, so the evidence exists without anyone assembling it afterwards.

The flow

- Contractor onboarding link. Send a link to a new contractor firm. Their staff self-register and upload documents before their first site visit.
- Site inductions on device. Video, PDF, or interactive slides, followed by a knowledge check. Pass rate stored, retake required on expiry.
- Insurance and cert uploads. Public liability, employer's liability, professional indemnity, plus trade certs (CSCS, ECS, IPAF, PASMA, whatever your site requires).
- Expiry-driven blocking. When a cert or policy passes its expiry date, that contractor cannot sign in until they upload a new one. No override without a written reason.
- Auditor read-only login. Give your insurer a read-only account. They can pull the compliance history for any contractor on any date without asking you to email a spreadsheet.

CSCS card by trade, employer's liability minimum £10m, public liability minimum £5m, method statement and RAMS acceptance per project.

Regulated facilities
Enhanced DBS check date, non-disclosure agreement signed, sanctions screening pass, insurance evidence, area-specific access approvals.
